First Commerce Bank Leads WebTV Banking
-- nFront designs first Internet banking site for WebTV --
ATHENS, Ga., June 6, 1997 - First Commerce Bank announced the opening of the country's first Internet banking site developed for Microsoft's WebTV®. The bank's WebTV location was designed by nFront, an official Microsoft Solution Provider, and serves as the sister site to its home page located on the Internet at www.nbank.com.
WebTV is an alternative "portal" to the Web, which enables users to surf the Internet from their TV sets. A set-top box containing Internet compatible software and a wireless keyboard resembling a remote control let users view Internet sites configured to WebTV standards.
Tripp Rackley, president of nFront, said, "WebTV offers a low cost, low technology delivery channel for online banking and is the next facet of Internet access. It broadens the already unlimited online banking market for financial institutions of all sizes, especially community banks. The key to success with WebTV is providing an interface specifically designed for that device. Since a computer is typically viewed from 2 feet and a TV from 12 or more feet, this requires a major difference in user design."
nFront creates, hosts and maintains secure Internet and WebTV sites for the community banking industry. Its flagship product, nHome, is a Windows NT and SQL Server based application enabling banks to offer fully interactive, 24 hour, 7 day a week financial services and information to on-line customers and prospects. Using nHome, customers can view account balance and histories, transfer funds between accounts, pay bills, open new accounts, and communicate with their bank representatives.
First Commerce Bank, with over $120 million in assets, launched the WebTV site in April 1997 as a cost effective, 24-hour alternative to a "brick and mortar" branch.
Charles Blair, President of First Commerce Bank added, "We expect WebTV to become a well recognized and accepted medium for accessing the Internet. Launching a WebTV compatible site reinforces our commitment to providing the next wave of financial services for our current customers and prospects nationwide."
The nHome software best operates through a secure, private network managed by nFront for tracking and reporting site traffic, site maintenance and security. It works in conjunction with the Microsoft SQL Server to ensure transaction requests are immediately fulfilled. Plus, the SQL Server technology monitors security, account validation, account transfers, performs account tracking, and ensures information is continually backed up in a secure environment.
nFront also offers an interactive Web calculator suite for financial planning, extensive customer demographic collection and reporting functions, and a customizable email system for distributing on-line marketing promotions and product information.
nFront provides Windows NT operating system-based Internet and WebTV banking solutions for community banks including Web site design, hosting of the site, and maintenance. The company's flagship product enables banks to offer customers 24-hour, on-line access to financial services. Founded in 1996, nFront owns the registration rights of the www.banking.com domain name.
